MVDr. Richard Kapalko, Cert. SAS, AdvCertSAOS

Founder of the clinic & certified surgeon & orthopaedic specialist AdvCertSAOS

MVDr. Richard Kapalko is the founder of the clinic, certified in advanced orthopaedics, with more than 25 years of specialised practice. He works in orthopaedic diagnostics in the lameness laboratory, which is equipped with digital lameness diagnostics through MRI, CT and fluoroscopy imaging, orthopaedic ultrasound and direct-digital X-ray. He considers the earliest, most effective diagnosis of orthopaedic problems a priority — especially in developmental disorders, which become harder to correct with age. Surgically he covers the full spectrum of orthopaedic procedures — from elbow arthroscopy and intervertebral disc surgery to total hip replacement. Fractures are treated to AO-ASIF standards. He emphasises minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery and comprehensive care for the patient after the procedure itself. An important part of our approach is therefore the link to our physiotherapy centre, which allows orthopaedic care at Bennett to flow, on an individual basis, into follow-up physiotherapy. Our key aim is for diagnostics, surgery and aftercare to form one connected whole, so that the patient receives high-quality, effective orthopaedic care.

Petra Menclová, CertCAAPR

Certified physiotherapist & head of the rehabilitation centre, clinic management

Petra Menclová runs the certified rehabilitation centre on the second floor of the hospital and, as a physiotherapist with the CertCAAPR certification, draws up a recovery plan for each patient individually: for dogs after orthopaedic surgery, for neurological cases, for geriatric patients whose aim is to stay mobile, for overweight patients, for canine athletes and for dogs after various traumas. In her work she very often uses the underwater treadmill: the water supports the body while providing resistance, so muscle can be strengthened without loading a freshly operated joint. She regularly attends further professional courses and workshops in veterinary physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Alongside rehabilitation she is also responsible for the management of the clinic.

MVDr. Martin Lapin

Surgery & Laparoscopic Spaying

MVDr. Martin Lapin works in surgery and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. After nine years at our hospital, laparoscopy is well-practised routine for him: wherever the diagnosis allows, he chooses the minimally invasive approach through small ports instead of an open incision, so the wounds after surgery are smaller and the patient usually returns to everyday life sooner. Alongside this he performs a wide range of routine surgical procedures. In each of them he cares as much about precision and the professional side of the operation as about the safety and comfort of the patient: surgery demands experience, accuracy and calm in every situation.

MVDr. Veronika Heglasová

Ophthalmology & Internal Medicine

MVDr. Veronika Heglasová works in ophthalmology and internal medicine. What drew her to them above all was the chance to connect detailed diagnostics with a view of the patient as a whole. For her, veterinary medicine is not only about diagnosis and treatment but above all about trust and a sensitive approach: she enjoys looking for connections, solving complex cases and seeing the concrete result of her work. She provides comprehensive diagnostics of eye diseases, including examination of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, measurement of intraocular pressure, examination of diseases of the lacrimal apparatus, the fluorescein test and ocular ultrasound. The most common warning signs of eye disease are redness, tearing or discharge, squinting, pain, clouding of the eye, changes in the pupil, swelling or deteriorating vision. What fulfils her most in a vet's work is the chance to help animals and at the same time be a support to their owners — she approaches every patient with sensitivity and respect, perceives its needs and understands the worries and emotions of its owner. Her greatest joy is when she can help an animal feel better and give its owner a sense of certainty and trust.

MVDr. Karin Kang

Cardiology, Dermatology & Internal Medicine

Within veterinary medicine, MVDr. Karin Kang specialises in cardiology and internal medicine. Cardiology appealed to her above all for its complexity and demands, which is why she chose a field that calls for precise diagnostics and a thorough understanding of how the organism works. In her practice she most often performs echocardiography, which allows the structure and function of the heart to be assessed in detail in real time. She regularly extends her expertise through professional workshops and conferences. In 2024 she completed an intensive echocardiography workshop at the Ultraschall Akademie in Vienna. In 2025 she attended an ECG conference in Prague led by cardiologist Roberto Santilli and an echocardiography workshop in Brno focused on the right side of the heart and pulmonary hypertension. She has also trained in gastroenterology and dermatology at the Nova veterinaria conference in Nitra. What she values most in her work is the chance to help patients with serious diseases and to see them return to a better quality of life.
